Call for Papers for the Special Section "Exploring the Dimensions of Video Games and Contemporary Research in Latin America"

The journal Obra Digital announces a special issue dedicated to research in the field of game studies, also known as "Game Studies," as well as research applied to the development of video games in the industry. Four non-exclusive categories are proposed to cover the fields of video game research in Latin America:

  • Video Games and Ludonarrative: This category includes works on video games as a narrative medium, as well as manifestations of performative language and aesthetic expression.
  • Video Games and Society: The main objective of this category is to explore the social impact of video games, the ways in which video games are appropriated, and video games as cultural productions.
  • Video Games and Industry: This category focuses on the game development experience, applied methods, production processes, and research applied to the development of the independent industry.
  • Serious Games: This fourth category focuses on studies on video games and game development applied to fields such as education, mental health, epistemology, and human rights, among others.

Additional proposals emphasizing one or more of the following themes will also be considered:

  • Diversity in Narratives
  • Ethics and Video Games: Challenges and Reflections
  • Player Psychology, Behavior, Motivation, and Emotional Experience
  • Artificial Intelligence in Game Design
  • Virtual Communities and their Social Connections Through Video Game

Submission of manuscripts: Until March 30, 2024

Publication: December 2024
