This special issue proposes the analysis of some aspects of design in this technology-mediated society that leads contemporary designers to develop new ways of doing things, also thanks to the integration of continuously evolving technological tools. A professional task involving Information and Communications Technology (ICT), while at the same time facing the paradox of immaterial production, that implies the reconsideration of the ontology of objects. This issue offers a critical approach to new design practices as well as to the re-appropriation of traditional ones, and also proposes some guidelines to understand contemporary design in its mediatory and proactive role.
